Azerbaijan contributes to Europe’s framework for gender equality in anti-doping

Europe’s anti-doping authorities gathered in Strasbourg last week for two high-level meetings that are shaping the future of clean sport: the 68th session of the Ad Hoc European Committee for the World Anti-Doping Agency (CAHAMA) and the 61st session of the Monitoring Group of the Anti-Doping Convention (T-DO). Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation led by Dr. Tahmina Taghi-zada, Chief Executive Officer of the Azerbaijan National Anti-Doping Agency (AMADA).

CAHAMA delegates met on 2–3 September to coordinate Europe’s common positions ahead of the next WADA Executive Committee, focusing on governance, leadership elections and Europe’s proposals for WADA’s agenda.

On 3–4 September, the T-DO addressed compliance monitoring, national evaluations in Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and measures to curb the availability of doping substances in Europe. Delegates also condemned the “Enhanced Games” initiative and reviewed Europe’s contributions to the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code.

A landmark moment came with the launch of the Ad Hoc Group on Gender Mainstreaming in Anti-Doping (T-DO GEMA). Building on the outcomes of the Drafting Committee on Gender Equality in Anti-Doping (GECA), a CAHAMA group of experts, the new body will develop recommendations and monitoring tools to embed equality across the anti-doping system. The group will be chaired by Rufat Efendiyev, AMADA Deputy CEO and CAHAMA Gender Equality Rapporteur.

The next CAHAMA meeting will take place in November 2025, with CAHAMA and T-DO reconvening in March 2026 in Strasbourg, ahead of the WADA European Regional Symposium in Baku.
